Fun, Music and Lessons of VeggieTales, to Debut Exclusively on DVD

All the music, fun and values-based
storytelling of VeggieTales return in two brand-new movies starring the veggie
crew, whose antics are fresher than ever in Celery Night Fever, debuting on Aug. 5,
and Beauty and the Beet, which premieres Oct. 14.
Actor Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Who Wants to be a Millionaire)
stars – and sings – in Celery Night Fever, while country-music superstar Kellie
Pickler (American Idol, “Best Days of Your Life”) brings her unmistakable voice and
irresistible charm to Beauty and the Beet.
“Having two brand-new movies premiere in the same year is pretty exciting
news for any veggie – but starring right alongside Terry and Kellie is just dressing
on the salad,” said VeggieTales stars Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber.
In Celery Night Fever, the retro funkadelic sights and sounds of polyester
leisure suits and disco balls take center stage – along with a timeless message of
friendship and forgiveness.
Crews provides the voice of Bruce Onion, a nefarious real-estate developer
who plans to turn the serene, green Celery Park into a parking lot. His unsavory
scheme spurs Laura Carrot and Junior Asparagus to enact a bold plan: reuniting the
long-lost ’70s band The Groovy Brothers to play at a fund-raising concert.
The problem is, The Groovy Brothers haven’t spoken to each other in
decades, and the members have little interest in getting back together. Their long-
simmering feud spills over to affect Laura and Junior. It’s not just Celery Park that’s
in jeopardy – if best friends can’t learn to forgive each other and accept each other’s
faults, the veggies might lose their cherished community gathering spot.
Celery Night Fever features six original songs, including a rousing number
from Bruce Onion, showcasing the musical side of Terry Crews.
“I’ve been a fan of VeggieTales for the longest time,” said Crews. “To actually
be a part of it is phenomenal. VeggieTales is good-hearted entertainment that I’m
excited to share with my own family – plus, it’s awesome to be able to sing!”
Celery Night Fever debuts Aug. 5 exclusively on DVD.
In October – just in time for the holidays – the veggies return in the winter-
themed Beauty and the Beet, an all-new take on the classic fairy tale. Pickler stars as
Mirabelle, the sweet-potato lead singer of a family band that meets with unexpected
trouble when an angry innkeeper makes them feel unwelcome. As she befriends the
Beet and matches his harshness with loving acts, Mirabelle proves that compassion
and kindness reap their own rewards.
Beauty and the Beet features seven original songs performed by Pickler,
which will be collected on a companion CD that features a special rendition of “Deck
the Halls” also sung by Pickler. The holiday album will be released to coincide with
the DVD and will be available for download via iTunes.
These two all-new VeggieTales feature-length movies lead up to even
more fresh, exciting news for VeggieTales fans: A brand-new Netflix original TV
series, VeggieTales In the House, that will premiere on the streaming platform on
Thanksgiving weekend.

VeggieTales has been a trusted parenting partner to moms of preschoolers –
and the world’s number one purveyor of silly songs -- for more than 20 years. It is truly
a homegrown brand, created in 1993 by Phil Vischer and Mike Nawrocki, founders of
Big Idea Productions, as a show to entertain their own children. But Phil and Mike soon
discovered their veggies were more than just a garden-variety kids’ show: The off-the-wall

more than 70 million DVDs, 15 million books and 7 million CDs.
Each VeggieTales story incorporates original music and imaginative storytelling to
relate the lighthearted escapades of a group of animated vegetable friends, led by Bob the
Tomato and Larry the Cucumber.
Their exploits frequently offer gentle parodies of pop culture – and, most
importantly to fans, impart an important character trait for children, such as honesty,
contentment, kindness, sharing and forgiveness. At the end of each story, Bob and Larry
share Bible passages that reflect and reinforce the lessons they and their veggie crew have
learned, always leaving viewers with the important reminder: “God made you special, and
He loves you very much.”
VeggieTales made an organic transition to U.S. network television in 2006, where
it appeared on NBC through 2009; and the whole gang stirred the pot at the box office by
appearing in two feature-length theatrical films, Jonah (2002) and The Pirates Who Don’t
Do Anything (2009). Fans have been able to enjoy live stage shows across the country
featuring their favorite veggie characters, and this fall will be able to see them in an all-
new Netflix original series, VeggieTales In the House. In 2012, VeggieTales became part

In a crowded field of entertainment for kids, VeggieTales is the single most
trusted and most popular brand among practicing Christian moms, according to a 2014
survey by Barna Research Group. That study found that 91 percent of those moms rated
the series from 8 to 10 on “family-friendliness,” outscoring other well-known, popular
kids’ entertainment properties by double digits. The study also found that the series’
appeal crosses generational lines, with even more “Millennial” Christian moms describing
themselves as “big fans” of the series than those who belong to “Generation X.”
In the past 20 years, VeggieTales has inspired a full line of popular products,
